Dear Friends,
It feels odd, even, somehow inappropriate, to be writing to you, once again, on the subject of health and longevity. After all, the world has changed. Four thousand of our countrymen have perished at the hands of fanatics, fanatics who, along with their co-conspirators, have sworn to our total destruction. As our nation prepares for retaliation we are painfully reminded of how small our lives are in comparison to the values and principles and history we share with all of civilized society. It seems wrong to let go, if we ever can let go, of the outrage and sorrow we now feel. Yet life does go on. Perhaps by going on with it, by refocusing on the business of living, by reclaiming peace of mind in the face of our feelings of sorrow and outrage, we achieve some small victory. In that spirit, then, I will share a few thoughts on how we can keep our bodies strong and our minds clear in confronting what now seems a future full of challenge.
I spoke to three wonderful people this past week who reported to me on the power of Dr. Wallach's message and on the effectiveness of his supplements in their lives. The first was Jo Roberts from Vernal, Utah. Jo is 53, a tall (6' 2"), hard working, athletic woman who, three years ago, began experiencing the collapse of her musculo skeletal health. She was diagnosed, then, with "severe osteoporosis." Predictably her doctors threw the medicine chest at her, putting her on one prescription drug after another (5 in all). None of them worked. One exam they found, in addition to the osteoporosis, five herniated discs and several bone spurs. To make matters worse, November 1999 Jo was in a terrible automobile accident. She broke her collar bone, broke a number of fingers, ripped a knee to shreds, etc. July 2000 her collar bone still had not healed properly and her life had become, essentially, a forced march of pain pills during the week just to function and weekends spent flat on her bed. In her words, at 53 "I had the body of an 85 year old woman. My doctor told me 'This is the best it will get. This is your good time. You had better enjoy it now because it is going down hill fast.' He basically told me there is 'nothing I can do for you.'"
On this last point, fatefully, the doctor was right. He did not do any more for Jo. But Jo, began taking matters into her own hands. February 2001 she started using Dr. Wallach's products going heavy on the GlucoGel, the CM Plus, the Majestic Earth Minerals and the OsteoCAL. The effect was dramatic: "In three days I felt better than I had in 2 years." The products were a lifeline. Taking six CM Plus in the morning and six in the evening she was able to drop her pain medication and start giving serious attention to rebuilding her bones and cartilage with the other products. Last Monday, Jo reports, her osteoporosis was re-diagnosed as moderate (was "severe"). She has every confidence another six months will produce a diagnosis of "mild" or "none." Jo reports she now has complete flexibility, mobility and limberness all through her neck, her back her legs, total. The day before I talked to her she cleaned all the walls and ceilings in half her house (2800 sq. ft. house). "I do more in a week now than I used to do in six months." Thank you Dr. Wallach!
The second person I spoke to this last week was Dave Roberts, Jo's husband actually. Dave owns and operates his own construction company. He is a very active, can do, piss and vinegar sort of guy: loves the outdoorsy life; loves to work his body; and enjoys producing results by his own hand. In his company he attends to administrative work yet also insists on strapping on a tool belt each day. Traditionally he has been the one who sets the pace for his crew. But when Jo's auto accident hit, it sent Dave into a sort of mental tailspin. That great reserve of energy and resolve upon which he had always depended (and based his livelihood on) started to leak away. He became depressed and angry. Two o'clock, each day and he was whipped. He'd have to hang up his hat and take a three hour nap. Worried, Jo insisted he take a physical. The physical came back showing elevated triglycerides, high blood sugar and high blood pressure. Witnessing Jo's recovery on Dr. Wallach's program (what he now refers to as their "own little miracle") Dave decided his body could use some nourishment as well. He ordered the Ultimate Tangy Tangerine, the OsteoCAL, the SweetEZE and Cardio-fx. The result? In Dave's own words, "Three months after I started taking the stuff they took my blood pressure and, voila, my blood pressure was at 118/72 down from 152/94. It made my physical condition and my mental condition (pause), it totally reversed it from what it had been before. My endurance has quadrupled." Like having two extra men on the crew. And when it comes to projects around the house, "Now I just get out there and I just keep working until it is done. I don't take these three hour naps in the afternoon." Dave advises folks most of all to "be patient." If you stick to the program, do the supplements, avoid the "No, no's" of sugar, caffeine, fried food, time becomes your ally (instead of enemy).
The third person I spoke to this week is Nadine from Colorado. Nadine told me that on her side of the family there is a lot of osteoporosis and that she, unfortunately, has not been an exception. Over the years it has caused substantial bone loss. In fact, she reports that she has shrunk about one inch since reaching her full adult height. Oddly enough, except for the shrinkage and occasional difficulties with her back, Nadine has exhibited few other symptoms. However, a bone density test done a number of months ago confirmed that she had the bone density of a woman in her eighties (Nadine is 64). Following her husband's lead, who had had great success on the product, Nadine started loading up on the OsteoCAL primarily, but also the Majestic Earth Classic and M.E. Minerals. The immediate effect, Nadine reports, was a boost in stamina, "I just feel like getting up and taking off and running and, you know, just that enthusiasm." Like Dave and Jo, Nadine stuck with it. When she visited the doctor for another bone density test just the other day it came in right in the normal range for her age!
These minerals of ours go right to where they are needed. That is the difference between what we offer, for example in the OsteoCAL, compared to the normal sort of fare one finds at a Walgreens or GNC. OsteoCAL delivers a full 1200 IU per fluid ounce. Along with the calcium it contains vitamin K, vitamin D and other nutritional constituents crucial to calcium uptake. Talking to Dr. Wallach and to Steve Wallach on the subject I've learned, too, that the calcium in our OsteoCAL is subjected to "molecular shaving." This is a very high tech, expensive and elaborate process, essentially mechanical, by which the particle size of the calcium is reduced and reduced and further reduced. Not so much so that it loses its individual characteristics or its identity as calcium but it is reduced to its finest possible, microscopic, size. This boosts the surface to mass ratio thus increasing bioavailability dramatically.
According to Dr. Wallach there is a direct, incontrovertible link between calcium deficiency and both high blood pressure and osteoporosis. For this reason Jo, Dave and Nadine all turned to the OsteoCAL to insure sufficient intake of this crucial mineral. Beyond high blood pressure and osteoporosis, again according to Dr. Wallach, there are another 145 diseases or disease conditions traceable to calcium deficiency. If you are not doing it already, we encourage each of you to expand your intake to one ounce per day (one bottle per month). Could be the best health decision you ever make!
I'll close, this issue, with a piece by one of my favorite essayists, one Scot Simon of National Public Radio. He has a gift for putting into words what many of us are feeling during these somber days:
Worth Defending by Scot Simon
There is very little good to be said about tragedy or terror but sometimes such misery seizes us with a sense of utter clarity and reminds us of who we are, who we love and what is worth giving our lives for.
Jeremy Glick of Hewett, New Jersey, called his wife, Elizabeth, during the last moments of United flight 93, the flight on which the selfless resistance of several passengers may have saved it from being propelled into another national monument. As Mr. Glick prepared to use the last moments of his life to save others he phoned his wife and said, "I love you. Don't be sad. Take care of our daughter. Whatever you do is ok with me." The depth of his love compressed and clear as a diamond.
This week the fear citizens suddenly feel about America's security may have caused many Americans to admit to themselves how much they love their country. Love it not with blind devotion but unblinking recognition of its faults. Love the America they can chide for having 31 flavors of ice cream and people from 200 nations around the world living within its borders. Love the America that can be giddy, superficial and materialistic but also funny, delightful and generous. America can abound with silly, daft and even dangerous ideas because people here are free to express any damn fool idea that comes to them. America can be bigoted and inhospitable and it takes strangers from all over the world into its arms. America has been targeted by a few fanatics who are willing to kill 1000's and themselves to bring that nation to its knees but far more people from around the world have been willing to die just to try to live here.
It is not that Americans don't want their country to change in a 1000 different ways but this week many were reminded that America still seems to them to be the place in the world where change is most possible. Patriotism has often been the last refuge of scoundrels. But what place is there in life's race for those who twist their faith into a weapon to run through innocent people?
When George Orwell came back to England after fighting against fascism in the Spanish Civil War he felt uneasy over finding his country so comfortable. "(His) country," he said, "with fat Sunday newspapers and thick orange jam all sleeping the deep, deep sleep from which I sometimes fear that we shall never wake until we are jerked out of it by the roar of bombs." This week, Americans with our 40 different kinds of coffee drinks and diet pills heard that roar and the blast awakened a gratitude to live in a country worth loving and defending.
Best of health to you in these troubled times,
Stu Hunt
