Remember when your darling little four year old looked up at you with those big, round eyes and denied pilfering the chocolate ice cream he or she was wearing all over his face?. You had to laugh, right? There is something funny about tell tale, incontrovertible evidence.

At a recent Dr. Wallach social I had to stifle a laugh, too, for much the same reason. There in front of me sat a group of three women, all in their early seventies, all in a row on the couch, chatting merrily away and all clearly marked with the tell tale sign of having been "doing the minerals" for at least four or five months. It is physically impossible for our bodies to produce melanin or hair pigment, yet alone deliver it to the hair follicle, without trace amounts of plant derived copper. As babies we have plenty, stealing it from mom if necessary (sorry, Mom!!), but over the years, if we don't take it in from supplementing or from the foods we eat, we inevitably begin to show, certain signs. When the walls of veins and arteries are weakened, areas of weakness become more vulnerable to free radical damage and, eventually begin to serve as perfect hosting environments for build up of plaque. Thus, weakened blood vessels can eventually result in a collapse of cardiovascular health: stroke, heart disease, aneurysm, etc.

Copper deficiency is fairly widespread. According to Dr. Wallach a good "five percent of Americans autopsied have died of ruptured aneurysm and another 40% have aneurisms that had not ruptured."
